24/7 Emergency Oil Boiler Repair Across Long Island

Oil boilers represent a substantial share of Long Island's heating equipment, especially in older Suffolk County colonials and East End estates that pre-date natural gas service. They're durable, but they fail in specific ways that require a technician trained on oil-burner work specifically. The page covers "emergency oil boiler repair" and "emergency oil boiler call out" (the British-English term for the same service that some Long Island residents use).

All Island Comfort has been Long Island's oil-boiler specialists since 2004. We're NORA-certified for oil-burner service, we work with major Long Island oil dealers (customers of Petro, Approved Oil, Delea, etc. welcome), and our trucks carry the specialty parts that oil boilers need: nozzles in every common gph and spray pattern (Delavan, Hago), electrodes, oil pumps (Suntec single and two-stage), primary controls (Honeywell R7184, R8184, Beckett GeniSys), cad cells, transformers, oil filters, and circulator pumps.

If your oil boiler has locked out (red reset button on the burner), the burner cycles on safety, you smell oil, you see smoke at the chimney or registers, or the boiler simply won't fire on call for heat, call us. We'll triage on the phone and dispatch immediately.

Common Oil Boiler Emergency Symptoms

Oil boiler failures present in distinct ways, mostly tied to the oil burner itself.

Oil Burner on the Boiler Locks Out

Most common oil boiler emergency. Primary control sees no flame and shuts the burner off. Causes: dirty cad cell, fouled nozzle, weak electrode spark, water in the fuel, low fuel level, oil pump pressure issue, or primary control failure. Press reset ONCE only.

Burner Cycles on Safety / Locks Out Repeatedly

Burner runs briefly, shuts down, locks out. Usually a partially fouled nozzle, weak ignitor transformer, dirty cad cell signal, or oil pressure not holding. Each cycle pumps unburned oil into the chamber, do not let it run.

Smell of Oil in the Basement

Could be a small fuel leak (oil filter housing, fuel-line fitting, oil pump), venting backdraft, or unburned oil from repeated lockout attempts. Investigate immediately. Call us, do not light a flame near the smell.

Smoke at the Chimney or Registers

Oil burner over-firing, burning rich, or carbon buildup in the heat exchanger. Common when the boiler hasn't been tuned in 2+ years. Combustion analysis required.

No Heat, Burner Fires Fine

Burner combustion is clean, but radiators stay cold. Usually a stuck zone valve, failed circulator pump, air bound zone, or aquastat fault. Easy to isolate.

Water Under the Boiler

Could be relief-valve discharge (overpressure or expansion-tank failure), tankless coil leak, circulator pump leak, or in worst cases a cracked boiler section. Shut the boiler off, place towels under the leak, and call us.

Pressure Outside Normal Range

Hot-water oil boilers should sit between 12 and 18 PSI cold, 25-30 PSI hot. Outside that range usually means an expansion tank failure or auto-feed valve issue.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm Activated

Most serious oil boiler emergency. Get fresh air, call 911 if anyone has symptoms, then call us. Causes: cracked heat exchanger, blocked chimney, back-drafting. Combustion analyzer required to diagnose properly.

Don't Keep Pressing the Reset Button

Each reset attempt pumps unburned oil into the chamber. Press it ONCE. If it locks out again, call us. The chamber can flood and create a fire hazard.

Our 4-Step Rapid Response for Oil Boiler Emergencies

  1. 1
Triage on the call. A real Long Island dispatcher answers and walks through your symptoms. We rule out anything you can fix in 60 seconds (thermostat, breaker, reset button), then dispatch immediately. No phone tree, no offshore call center.
  2. 2
Local tech to your door. Typical response is 1 to 3 hours across Suffolk and Nassau, faster for the North Shore corridor between Wading River and Port Jefferson. Your tech texts when 15 minutes out.
  3. 3
Diagnose and quote before any wrench moves. Flat diagnostic fee, written quote on-site, your written approval before any repair starts. No surprise charges, no upselling.
  4. 4
Restore safe heat tonight when possible. About 85% of our oil boiler emergency calls finish on the first visit because the trucks carry oil burner nozzles in every gph and spray angle, electrode sets, primary controls, cad cells, oil pumps, transformers, oil filters, circulator pumps, and zone valves.

What to Do While You Wait for the Technician

  • Press the oil burner reset button once. Red button on the side of the burner. Press once. If it locks out again, do not press a second time.
  • Check the oil tank gauge. If under 1/4 tank, you may be out of fuel. Air in the line will need bleeding by a tech.
  • Confirm the emergency switch is on. Red switch at the top of the basement stairs and another near the boiler. Both must be on.
  • Replace thermostat batteries if the screen is blank or dim.
  • Check the boiler pressure gauge (hot-water boilers). 12-18 PSI cold is normal.
  • Close interior doors to trap warmth in occupied rooms.
  • Run cold water at a slow drip on faucets along exterior walls to prevent frozen pipes.

FAQs

Long Island Emergency Oil Boiler Repair FAQs

What is an oil boiler call out?

"Call out" is British-English terminology that some Long Island residents use, meaning a service call for an oil boiler. The intent is identical to "emergency oil boiler repair": you have a problem with your oil boiler and you need a technician dispatched to your home. We send the same crew either way.

Why can't I keep pressing the oil burner reset button?

Each reset attempt sprays oil into the combustion chamber for the safety window (15 to 45 seconds depending on the primary control). If the burner doesn't light, that oil pools in the chamber. Repeated resets flood the chamber. When the burner finally does light, the accumulated oil ignites all at once and creates a dangerous flame-out, sometimes severe enough to crack the boiler section or start a fire.

Do you work on Beckett, Riello, and Carlin oil burners on boilers?

Yes, all three. Beckett is the most common on Long Island. We carry parts and service knowledge for all three.

How quickly can you respond to an oil boiler emergency?

Typical response is 1 to 3 hours across Suffolk and Nassau counties. Oil boiler lockouts get priority dispatch because the chamber-flooding risk grows with each reset attempt.

Do you work on Energy Kinetics System 2000 boilers?

Yes. The System 2000 is a popular Long Island cold-start oil boiler with a specific thermal-purge cycle and unique aquastat behavior. Our techs are trained on it.

How much does emergency oil boiler repair cost on Long Island?

Diagnostic fee is flat and disclosed on the phone. Common oil boiler repairs (nozzle and electrode replacement $200-$350, cad cell $150-$250, primary control $300-$500, transformer $200-$300, oil pump $400-$700, circulator pump $300-$600, zone valve $250-$400) typically run $200 to $700 parts and labor.

Can you arrange emergency oil delivery if my tank is empty?

Yes. We're a full Long Island oil-delivery company. If you've run out, we can deliver and prime the boiler on the same visit. New customers welcome, no contract required for emergency drops.

Do you cover Nassau County for oil boiler emergencies?

Yes. We cover all of Nassau County. Long Island oil-heated homes are still common, especially in older Nassau communities and the East End of Suffolk.
